What is 3-FEA?

3-Fluoroethamphetamine , also known as 3-FEA HCL, is a novel ring-substituted amphetamine compound that produces a combination of stimulant and entactogenic effects upon administration. Structurally, 3-FEA is related to a number of designer fluorosubstituted amphetamines, including original compounds such as 2-FA, 2-FMA, 3-FA, 4-FMA, and 4-FA.

Analyses of the pharmacological, toxicological, and subjective effects of 3-FEA in humans are still required, similar to those for its parent compound, 3-FA. Chemical properties

3-FEA, also known as 3-fluoroethamphetamine, is a synthetic compound from the chemical class of amphetamines. Molecules of the amphetamine class consist of alpha-methylated phenethylamine. It is derived from a phenyl ring and is bound to an amino group (NH2) via an ethyl chain. In these molecules, Rα is replaced by a methyl group.

3-FEA is the 3-position fluorometric analogue of ethylamphetamine, also known as ethamphetamine. It is also an analogue of fenfluramine, with the 3-trifluoromethyl group replaced by a 3-fluoro substitute.

Pharmacological effects

Although 3-FEA has not been studied to the same extent as conventional amphetamine, it is currently thought that, like other amphetamine substitutes with substitutions at similar positions, it functions primarily as a triple reabsorption inhibitor and/or as a monoamine neurotransmitter releaser. It interacts with dopamine, serotonin, and adrenaline.

Compared to unsubstituted erythramine, 3-fluoroethamphetamine has been shown to reduce dopamine release; however, it also releases more serotonin and noradrenaline. In animal studies, several tested 3-substituted amphetamine derivatives produced the strongest tonic effects, although it is not the most potent dopamine releaser.

This suggests that 3-FEA HCL effectively increases brain concentrations of the three primary monoamine neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin by acting as a separating agent for these neurotransmitters and/or by binding to normally used transport proteins to partially block them. Thanks to transporter blockade, these molecules can accumulate at an extraendogenous level in the synaptic core regions of the brain, resulting in a combination of sedative, energizing, stimulating, and euphoric effects associated with amphetamines replaced by entactogens such as MDMA or 4-FA.
